Summer unofficially starts this weekend. Families are making plans for a vacation. Many think the environment calls for a “stay-cation,” including outdoor camping in their own backyard.
Silver-linings: real showers, clean bathrooms free of spider webs, no biting insects and short travel without packing the car. If it rains, pack it up and head back inside to watch Netflix.
Make backyard camping an adventure for the children. Consider leaving the phones inside the home. Spend family time around a grill singing camp songs and telling ghost stories.
Pack the tent, sleeping bags, headlamps and a Swiss army knife -- for authenticity. Catch bugs in jars. Bird watch with binoculars. Identify the cloud patterns and learn the constellations. (The New York Times)
